Homer's Dome

To create a big splash at Comic-Con 2014 in San Diego, and kick-off the 12-day marathon of The Simpsons airing in August, FXX partnered with Van Wagner Experiential to create a 28-foot, interactive, 3D Homer Simpson head, aptly named “Homer’s Dome.”

Upon entering the dome, the scent of freshly baked glazed doughnuts permeated the interior, and visitors were captivated by the tall walls decorated with Simpsons characters and a glowing statue of Homer’s brain.  Standing at 14’ tall and 24’ in diameter, the planetarium-shaped projection screen featuring exclusive Simpsons content was the highlight of the experience. Once the “Thought Extractor” was activated, five projectors placed around the dome and hidden inside the brain, took viewers on a 4 minute and 30 second viewing experience inside the mind of Homer Simpson.  The clip ended with a first look at The Simpsons World app.

Outside the dome, the Simpsons experience continued throughout the park. Visitors were encouraged to share all of their pictures on social media using the hashtag #EverySimpsonsEver and were invited to participate in the other Simpsons-themed activities (shown below).

Key Metrics:

  • Total Dome Participants – 4,393

  • Total Cotton Candy Distributed at Marge’s Sweet Station – 24, 300

  • Total Kwik – E – Race Participants – 9,730

  • Total Paint by Numbers Participants – 2,263

  • During the time of the event, #EverySimpsonsEver spiked on Twitter, garnering over 8MM impressions
